The Geographical Indication (GI) refers to products or services that have a specific geographical origin, which recognizes the reputation, quality and characteristics of the product related to the production site.

    The geographical indication is a distinct stamp consisting of a geographical name protected by law, granted by the National Industrial Property Institute - INPI.

   The geographical name indicates the source (a place or a specific region), used to identify and distinguish a product or service. It is an exclusive right to the producers that are within the specified region, and that are in accordance with the rules established by the Rules of Usage.

   The Rules of Usage contains all the rules that must be followed to obtain the geographical indication.

 Mantiqueira de Minas obtained the Geographical Indication in May 2011.
